Pierre Huyghe, Sleeptalking (with Sleep by Andy Warhol and the voice of john Giorno), 1998
John Giorno is the actor and sleeper in Andy Warhol’s film Sleep. He’s a person, a poet, who talks about his dreams, very concrete dreams since they are the utopias of the sixties. By telling about what he goes through, he becomes an actor and not just a sleepwalker. I simply associated the idea of the dream with the idea of utopia, the unconscious with waking life. I don’t speak of the failure of a utopia but of the way it transmutes and negotiates its relation to the everyday.
